In his book "The power of NOW" Eckhardt Tolle refers to the inner body as the gateway to pure consciousness. I totally agree. This is what Kundalini awakening is or energy orgasms are - Us realising ourselves as the Universal Life-Source itself. Furthermore, in Taoism and Tantra the aim is to realise the Divine within. Even Jesus and Buda teaches about God within us all.
Many times spiritual seekers will reach up and away from the body while those who seek sexual healing feel like they are running away from God. Yet it is only through the simple act of coming home to ourselves, through the body, accepting ourselves, that we realise we have never having been separate from the Divine itself.
